March Madness.

3/1/07

Tightly schooled redfish should be prevalent throughout the month of March. Though reds can be finicky throughout 'March Madness' on days when the wind is down you can often find huge schools traveling down skinny water mud flats. These times can be exciting and rewarding watching these huge schools pushing around. This time also makes for many chances to cast to visual pushes on high numbers of fish. Don't be afraid to apply just a little more aggressive movement to your fly as the fish get close to it to try and feed off of their instinct to attack it.

Trout should warm up with the water temperature rising. With a warm close to February and hopefully a warm March we should have plenty of trout to go around in your favorite trout hole. Don't expect them to turn on too fast though until we steadily have water temps above 62 or so, it will be off and on before that.

I guess I need to talk about little about Cobia as well. Keeping an eye on water temp for them is obvious, but do expect to see these fish until some time in mid April. Most of these fish didn't show up last year until the beginning of May but it all depends on what our weather does between now and then. I will keep you updated here with any information I get on them as they move north towards us as time gets closer.
