Cobia Being Caught Here
Though the numbers are not extremely high
yet Cobia are in. We put the first Cobia on the fly on Monday 4-23
around Broad river and Port Royal sound. The fish was about 40 lbs
on a red and white Puglisi mullet fly. Other cobia have been caught
during the week as well. The extreme high tides that we had at the
end of last week pushed some of these fish in and there will be plenty
more to follow. There are starting to be the final signs of these
fish showing up in large numbers, including some loggerhead turtles,
jelly balls, more and more bait in the river and plenty of bonnet
head sharks up on the flats. It shouldn't be too long to follow that
these fish will be in and around the St. Helena sound as well.
So get out there and get to work on reeling
in some of these big fish. It is exciting to have such a wonderful
start to the warmer seasons with these big powerful fish. If you are
looking for bait Jo at Jo's Bait Shop out off of Hwy 21 has plenty
of eels and chum along with other bait. Let us know when you want
to get out there and fish so we can get you down on the schedule in
this already busy season.Until next tide, Capt. Tuck Scott
