This Summer and Tailing Tides

7/26/07

Though this summer has had pretty extreme variances in temperature, with the most comfortable ones coming very recently, there is a ton of bait in the water. This is a great thing when you are trying to locate fish feeding on some bait, giving you the ability to target some active fish. On the other hand it often makes for fairly full redfish. You can certainly expect to see tailing fish on these high tides we have coming up though. In my fall report I will talk about tailing fish and why this strong amount of bait we have now will be wonderful for those reds then.

Other fish that have been strong have been trout, the Trout are much larger than I remember ever seeing in Beaufort. A few trout coming in my boat have been as big as 28 inches, which for those of you in Texas that isn't exactly a gator trout, but here that is a very nice fish. The usual suspects of the summer are also here ladyfish, flounder and the occasional tripletail or jack.

Tarpon are here as well, with small amounts of Menhaden. Though I have not spent a lot of time fishing for them, I do know the season to this point has been weaker than it should be. We are catching some but no one has really been wearing them out.

Let us know when you want to get out on the water. Tight Lines, Capt. Tuck Scott
