We went out a few evenings ago and did some wade
fishing for some tailing reds just a few hours before dark and had
a great time. The tide was not a huge full tide but provided enough
water to fill some of the short grass. We waited out a storm that
was a little closer for comfort and then ran to the flat and parked
the boat on the outside edge. We put on our wading shoes and hoped
out. About ten minutes later we saw our first tail. We ended up catching
a few fish on a Dupree spoonfly. The fish ranged in size from 20 to
30 inches. There were a few lost fish that were talented bulldoggers.
Meaning they were able to get their head down on the bottom and push
the fly out, you could tell that was case because the fly would come
back with the rooted section of many grass clusters on it.
Over the next two and a half months there are a
many nice big tides falling in a great season for tailing fish. The
second half of September through the end of November is also great
times for live baiting fish that will become more aggressive in the
cooler waters. These cooler waters will also help the trout and flounder
population and activity.
If you are looking for when certain fish will be
around take a look at the fishing season's addition to our website.
